Abraham Tower was a captain in the Cohasset Militia. He took over the ownership of his family’s outfitting business which sold wood, coal, lumber, and yacht supplies. His father, Abraham Tower, famous for participating in the Boston Tea Party, left the maritime business to him in his will in 1832. The will stated, "all my homestead farm on which I now live, and the buildings standing thereon; also my store and wharf at the Cove." Later, the next generation of sons, Abraham and Newcomb Bates Tower, took over as proprietors of A. H. Tower/Tower Brothers, which still operated on the Cohasset Tower Wharf.
