Military, Government/Civic Leader
Location: Plot 330

Levi Willcutt was born in Cohasset.

His son Levi Lincoln Willcutt’s daughter, Mary (Willcutt) Hooper, had great foresight on behalf of Cohasset residents. When she wrote her will in 1924, her number one wish was to build “an old age home” in Cohasset. She left the sum of $25,000 for that wish. However, even in the 1920s, $25,000 was not enough to build and maintain a senior center. The money was placed in a restrictive trust where income from the principal was directed to meet elderly needs in the area.  Over the next 50 years the Social Service League and church organizations facilitated matching community needs with the trust’s funds, putting it in the Willcutt Fund named for Hooper’s father. In 2008 the Social Service League took over administration of the fund and the building of the Cohasset Senior Center,  named Willcutt Commons, commenced with a $1Million donation from the Hooper Trust.

Levi’s father, Thomas (1760–1814), fought in the Revolutionary War, possibly in Paul Revere’s artillery regiment.
