After summering in Cohasset, he built an Italian-style stucco mansion in 1903 at 38 Atlantic Ave called "Torrebianca ."He designed several similar houses in the neighborhood known as Newtonville, including 26, 30, 32, 34, 40, and 42 (now 50).

Newton was born and educated in Boston and won a scholarship to study in Europe for two years, finishing at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He started his career at the premier architectural firm of the 19th and 20th centuries, Peabody and Stearns, and became its head designer. He later founded an independent practice and taught at Harvard University’s School of Architecture. In 1915, Newton combined the Zaccheus Rich Hose House with the Hook and Ladder House to create Cohasset's first fire station at the head of the harbor. In 1936, he had an exhibition of his work at the Cohasset Library.
