Charles Nichols is known for having the largest monument in the cemetery. He was born to Caleb Nichols and Clara Lothrop Nichols of Cohasset on August 28, 1822, and was one of five children. He wed Elizabeth A. Donnell of York, Maine, on December 2, 1862, and together they lived in Boston with their daughter Clara until his death. His second child, Charles, died at six months old in 1869. Nichols served in the War of 1812 and became a Master Carpenter like his father and grandfather, who both lived in town. In his later years, Charles was a store clerk. He died from "Congestion of the Brain."
